Discounts of 10% or more are available for large purchases, generally 5 bags or more. Special orders are welcomed, within the limits of our suppliers' availability.

Chicken Feeds:

Farmhouse Feeds Premium Organic Layer (and coming soon, Farmhouse Organic Corn & Soy Free Pellets!)

Milled in the Willamette Valley for us, this organic feed is the culmination of over 4 years of personal research into what makes a great poultry feed. We've borrowed our ingredients list from early 20th century farming manuals and combined them with the best of modern animal nutritional science. Major ingredients include quality GMO-free organic grains and legumes, many of which are grown within a few hundred miles. These are complimented by more unusual ingredients such as organic alfalfa, fish meal and pre-biotics to support egg production and poultry health.  

Alfalfa: We add organic  alfalfa meal for several reasons. First and foremost this plant provides the kind of nutrition usually lacking in confined poultry, namely green forage such as that provided by pasture. And in a related way, inclusion of alfalfa promotes deep yellow egg yolks, usually a sign of high vitamin content. Lastly, we are simply admirers of alfalfa's abilities to improve soil as a perennial plant, nitrogen fixer, nectar source for bees, and inhibitor of erosion through its massive root system.

Fish Meal: Chickens are omnivores, meaning that they eat a little of everything, including animal proteins. We've included small amounts of naturally preserved fish meal to ensure that  your chickens will receive important amino acids to complete their protein requirements. Additionally, this ingredient is proven to increase egg production and omega 3 fatty acid content. Don't worry, your eggs will not taste 'fishy!'

Pre-Biotics: This ingredient binds with receptors in the animal's gut to help prevent  disease causing organisms from gaining a foothold there. A naturally occurring product made from yeast. 

Portland Layer

A locally milled laying ration that we get custom made for the store using mostly local ingredients. This feed contains a small amount of alfalfa to ensure that your birds get some greens year-round. Also contains fish meal to provide quality protein for your naturally omnivorous birds. All this at a value price because it's not organic. Pelletized for easy feeding. 

Cascade Organic Layer

Currently the best all-around organic laying ration due to the inclusion high quality fish protein. This layer can also boast being entirely locally/regionally grown & milled as well as being corn and soy free (for those concerned about the over-consumption of these crops). This feed is a "mash" and is not pelletized. Even more so than the other feeds, we strongly recommend putting out only 1/2-3/4 cups of feed per bird each day to ensure that they clean their plates and don't leave over any small particles.

When you need organic, but want the convenience of pellets, these feeds are for you. 

Buxton Non-GMO Layer

If you want to buy local and are more concerned about avoiding genetically modified crops than organic certification, you can save several dollars a bag by buying this quality layer feed. Pelletized for easy feeding.
