The Urban Farm Store is proud to be the Northwest's premier source for backyard poultry. We stock more birds, of more breeds for a longer season than anyone else around! 

Whether it's baby chicks or started pullets, we are able to offer healthy birds seasonally from our own laying flock (coming soon) or year-round from our local and national suppliers. We are here to support you with expert advice based on our book, A Chicken In Every Yard, and friendly small town service. We also offer a variety of feeds for all life-stages of your flock. Fresh chicks arrive (or are hatched on site) on a weekly basis during the heart of chick season from February through June, every 1-2 weeks through the summer, and every three weeks in the fall and winter. All are vaccinated against Merricks disease and we stock only female chicks that are sexed with a 95% accuracy (unless noted otherwise). We have between 7 and 30 breeds in stock at any given time. Our arrival schedule can be found on our calendar. 

Most chicks are $5.95 each and are guaranteed to thrive for the first 48 hours after purchase if our care instructions are followed carefully. All chicks are first come, first served and cannot be reserved. We do not ship chicks at this time. 

Started pullets (females between 6 weeks and 1 year) are usually available, though the selection is not nearly as extensive as the younger chicks. 

We are doing special orders this year! If there is a bird you want, send an email to robert@urbanfarmstore.com with the breed, quantity and date you want the bird(s). Please allow up to 2 weeks for arrival so we can coordinate with other orders. Details:

  1. ALL REQUESTS ARE SUBJECT TO HATCHERY AVAILABILITY AND MUST BE PRE-PAID. SPECIAL ORDER BIRDS ARE 7.95 AND UP DEPENDING ON BREED (MEAT BIRDS LESS)
  2. PLEASE GIVE US AT LEAST 2 WEEKS BEFORE REQUESTED ARRIVAL DATE TO PLAN ORDERS. BIRDS ARRIVE WEDNESDAYS OR FRIDAYS DEPENDING ON HATCHERY. 
  3. ALL ORDERS MUST BE PICKED UP WITHIN 48 HOURS OF ARRIVAL OR WE KEEP THEM AND NO REFUND IS GIVEN
  4. REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR BIRDS PRE-PAID THAT DON'T ARRIVE AS PROMISED (RARE)

If you purchase a chick or pullet from us and she turns out to be a he, we will credit your purchase price toward any other chick or pullet in stock (sorry, no other items).

We can relocate roosters! Bring them in a cardboard box with some pine shavings on Wednesday or Saturday and we'll pass them on to our partner who will either keep them in his breeding program or relocate them to other breeding farms he knows. A small percentage end up at auction, an uncertain fate. He can also relocate older or unwanted hens.
 

Other Poultry

We often have ducks, turkeys, and other fowl as well. These will be listed on the calendar with listing such as "Duck Days" or other other names to indicate their special, limited availability.
